Interdisciplinary Migration Research Unit - IMRU
Established: 2025
The Interdisciplinary Migration Research Unit (IMRU) constitutes a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing EKKE's standing in migration studies while fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration in migration research. The Interdisciplinary Migration Research Unit operates as a hub for advancing interdisciplinary research in migration studies, combining theoretical approaches and methodologies from the social sciences. The unit implements its research agenda through the organization of interdisciplinary conferences, the production of scholarly publications, and the development of strategic partnerships with Greek and international institutions. Additionally, it utilizes EKKE's digital infrastructure to disseminate research data and promote public dialogue on migration phenomena.
The Interdisciplinary Migration Research Unit has two main objectives:
A. To enhance the visibility of EKKE's activities and expertise in the field of migration through a visible and unified medium that will serve as a reference point for Greece and abroad.
B. To establish an interdisciplinary space for academic discussion regarding the migration phenomenon.
The Unit will operate within the broader field of migration studies, focusing on the interdisciplinary study of the migration phenomenon. This approach combines different scientific perspectives and methodologies from the social sciences, including sociology, political science, social anthropology, geography, law, and international relations.
