Educational, Social, and Work Factors Affecting Employment: Leveraging PIAAC Data for Greece
This study examines the factors influencing the likelihood of employment during an economic crisis by utilizing data from the PIAAC survey. The survey was conducted in Greece in 2014-2015, with a sample of 4,925 individuals aged 16-65, exploring skill levels, educational and work history, demographic characteristics, and other parameters. Data collection was done through face-to-face interviews at respondents' homes, and skill levels in literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving in a technology-rich environment were objectively recorded. Logistic regression models were applied to investigate the factors affecting employment status, using the IEA IDB Analyzer, an open-access software tool employed by the OECD for analyzing PIAAC data.
The study examines the correlation between the likelihood of being employed and various factors, including work experience, education level, skill levels, health status, gender, age, and combinations of these variables. The analysis results show the extent to which education, skills, social capital, and other characteristics contribute to the probability of employment in Greece. The conclusions drawn from the analysis are used to propose policy recommendations for education and the labor market.
