Genealogies of reading urban space in Greece. Notes for a selective path

The text serves as an introduction to the collection of writings by Maria Mandouvalou titled "The Production of Urban Space as a Social and Political Stake: Narratives from Post-War Development Greece" (2023, Angelus Novus). The aim of the text is to identify the central ideas, genealogies, influences, methodological choices, and internal threads in the approaches to urban and spatial issues in Greece that run through the writings in the book. The text highlights the multiple value of republishing these writings in a single volume, as issues of land, property, housing, and urban development have gained central importance in the global economy today. The transformations that have emerged in recent years in the "land and building system" in Greece are significant, and the importance of a systematic historiographical approach to changing conditions of knowledge production is crucial.
