This is a new way to make my voice heard: gendered aspects of private and collective action in Athens during the crisis
The article records the forms of social reaction and mobilization in Athens during the crisis, with the main research question being whether gender is a differentiating factor. The data comes from a survey conducted in the spring of 2012 on a representative sample of households in the greater Athens area, using personal interviews and a closed questionnaire. The analysis does not reveal a statistically significant correlation between gender and forms of action, as it is found that both women and men adopt similar participatory practices, with women showing lower percentages only in institutional political practices. At the same time, the motivations for undertaking these actions are explored, as well as how their undertaking is interpreted by gendered subjects.
