Mixed methods research: The combination of methods in social sciences
The article contains the description of the mixed method research in social sciences attempting to serve as a practical handbook for potentially interested persons. It is a methodology approach that concerns combinational use of quantitative and qualitative methods in one research and refers to researcher’s choice to combine different methods aiming at increasing benefit for the achievement of research objective. The gradual consolidation of mixed-method research in social sciences is presented. Characteristics of quantitative and qualitative method that compose mixed-method research are briefly described. Mixed-method research is defined and its essential characteristics and its advantages and disadvantages from its use is described. In addition, a practical guide for practicing mixed-method research is compiled and finally an application paradigm is presented based on a field research implemented with a mixed methodological approach.
