Music, Politics, and Nostalgia: Fashwave as a Media Tactic of the Far Right

Fashwave is a musical subgenre, but also a broader aesthetic trend (a wave) that emerged from the so-called "alt-right" through practices of appropriation of earlier musical subgenres. Through Fashwave and specific retrofuturistic and archaeo-futuristic representations, the alt-right seeks to create and circulate the feeling of nostalgia, aiming to form emotional communities within the framework of digital networking, as well as to promote its positions regarding art, the nation, gender, and white supremacy.
