The Institution of the National Bioethics & Technoethics Committee and the New Challenges
The increasing complexity and relational interdependence of global networks have rendered a wide variety of dynamic systems (e.g., economy, public health, cyberspace, etc.) vulnerable to irreversible and nonlinear cascading effects. The COVID-19 pandemic exemplifies such complexity, causing immense human suffering worldwide while also triggering a global digital revolution with new opportunities and risks.
The establishment of the National Bioethics and Technoethics Committee (NBTC) in our country, as an advisory body to the State and the universal successor to the National Bioethics Committee, addresses a significant gap that has emerged both nationally and at the European level. This gap pertains to the need to address the rapid dynamics of technology and science, particularly concerning the multiple challenges posed by their increasing involvement in our daily lives.
