Symbolic economy in the historical center of Athens: assessment and perspectives for a new policy

Cultural and entertainment activities have been one of the main drivers of the transformation of the center of Athens from the early 1990s until the recent manifestation of the sovereign debt crisis. In this regard, the Greek capital is not an exceptional case. Across the developed world, these activities have played a central role in the spatial transformation of major cities, particularly in their urban centers.
