The Paradox of Democracy in Greece: Emancipatory Values, Expressions of Democracy, and Political Self-Placement
This study uses data from the 7th round of the World Values Survey for Greece to examine the formation of the "paradox of democracy" phenomenon within Greek society. It explores the correlation between emancipatory values and the various notions/expressions of democracy, while also attempting to relate these to political self-placement along the Left-Right axis. Our approach is guided by the work of Welzel in Chapters 8 and 10 of Freedom Rising (2013), which examines the global data from the 5th wave of the World Values Survey.
