Social capital, discrimination and political participation. The role of religiosity.

The project aims at a comparative empirical investigation of the role of religiosity in forming confidence toward society and its institutions, discriminating against others, and modes of political participation. The degree of influence exerted by various forms of religiosity differs importantly according to country and denominational frame, configuring not only value and sociopolitical orientations but also modes of participation in public life. Investigating this influence acquires a special gravity in the current political and economic european context, foregrounding religious pluralism as a fundamental indicator of social cohesion. Research is mainly based upon comparative quantitative analysis of available primary data of the ESS covering the last decade (2002-2012).
