Combating Discrimination in the Field of Entrepreneurship: Interviewing women and young Roma and Muslim Immigrants

The article presents the results of a qualitative field research in a research project with a mixed method research approach entitled "Tackling discrimination in the field of entrepreneurship: Women and young people, Roma and Muslim migrants". The analysis concerns 20 in-depth interviews (in Athens and Patras) with women and young people who pertain to the two population categories of Roma and Muslim migrants.

The content analysis of the interviews is presented separately for the Roma group and the Muslim migrants. The thematic categories that are highlighted and described in detail are the following: a) Profiles of participants (gender, age, nationality, years of residence in Greece, family status, residential area, educational level, knowledge of the Greek language), b) Professional and business activity (professional trajectory before and after the residency in Greece), c) Discrimination in the labor market and entrepreneurship (personal discrimination, in-group discrimination, inter-group discrimination), d) Sources of discrimination (dominant group, other sub-groups ), e) Attributions of discrimination (as expressed by the respondents), f) Indirect discrimination (exogenous factors such as the economic crisis, overconcentration of migrant populations), g) Facing problems, difficulties and discrimination (coping suggestions of the respondents).

The final conclusions raise concerns about the factors contributing to the successful professional integration of women and young Roma and Muslim migrants, as well as the factors that inhibit their entrepreneurial efforts.
