The Common European Asylum System under pressure: Parameters and transformation conditions
Description of the research object: The particularly high refugee flows occurring in 2015, coupled with the large human losses in the Mediterranean waters, undoubtedly undermine the existing Common European Asylum System. At the same time, the construction of fences in European countries to prevent the movement of people, calls into question the obligations of European states in the field of international protection of human rights. At the same time, the terrorist attacks in Paris in November 2015, jeopardize the movement of populations only in terms of security(securitization of migration). In this context, this article will attempt to analyze the parameters which exert pressure on the existing Common European Asylum System and the consequences that these may entail.

The challenges of Greek asylum policy in the light of new refugee flows
Description of the research object: In recent years, the Greek asylum system has been under constant and stifling pressure, which has intensified in 2015 with unusually large refugee flows. These streams have put the existing management framework into a rigorous test. The objective of this subproject is to assess the current situation regarding the Greek asylum policy. The reform of the Greek institutional framework with Law 3907/2011 will be assessed, with special emphasis being given to developments within 2015 and their consequences.

Intercultural dialogue, culture and refugee issue

Subsequently, these works are disseminated to the public, healing, sensitizing, giving direction and policy considerations, and ultimately contributing to intercultural dialogue. The purpose of the research is to highlight the cultural capital created by the refugee issue in our country either as domestic production or as imported cultural consumption.

Investigation of the dynamics of temporary refugees in Athens
In order to investigate selected places of residence in Athens, we are critical to observe and record the type and content of the relations developed between refugees and the "natives", by exploring not only the physical (formal and informal) organization of the setting, but also the "atmosphere" that characterizes them. The basic assumption on which such an investigation is based is that, despite the temporary nature and the rapidly changing nature of the reception areas (or indeed because of them), these are not accidental stations and containers of refugee "flows" , but more or less are scenes, where different actors are negotiating and presenting various (complementary or competitive) versions and meanings of refugee. At the same time, unlike the usual misconceptions about lawlessness and the rupture of social fabrics, the movement of refugees, as revealed in places of temporary residence, also contains unremitting efforts to preserve social networks, jointly addressing urgent needs, collective bargaining of emotions. In other words, temporary stay is treated as a form of (abnormal) habitation, which we can regard as living on the move. The ultimate goal is finally to identify the meanings of this habitation, which can be seen as indications of the integration process of refugees in the near future - or at least of the various preconditions for integration.

Movements of Silence. Refugees and Human Anthropologist
This research project is based on a personal experience of the researcher as it relates to incidents that he experienced in one of the refugees' entry islands in Greece, the Lesvos island. On the methodological approach, it goes beyond the classical methodological principles of on-the-spot participatory observation and focuses more on the issue of challenges, emotional constraints and moral dilemmas that an ethnographer has to face in the ethnographic field.

Mythical stories about the "stranger". Rhetoric of fear through the demonization of the refugees
The purpose of the research program is to investigate at local level the conditions of production, dissemination and consolidation of mythical stories about the stranger and how they are associated with symbols and images that contribute to being considered as true. In addition, the research interest focuses on the way in which these mythical stories are associated with the formation of societies and the advocacy of interests of the host society, as opposed to the "different other". The empirical material of the study derives from field research on the Lesvos island (North East Aegean) on the basis of participatory observation

Public opinion leaders and the refugee issue in Greece under crisis: The case of the daily press.
The subject of the study is to "read" the experiences of the opinion leaders (journalists of the daily press - correspondents, etc.) regarding the refugee issue in the current Greek reality and the transcription of their respective publications. We are interested in decoding the representations of the refugee issue as they are expressed in the journalistic speech as well as the ways and means of their creation and reproduction. This is an indirect approach to the experiences of refugees from the point of view of retransmission from a special case of the media.

Observatory of the Contemporary Refugee phenomenon.
The modern refugee phenomenon in Europe is characterized by a massive movement of populations, mainly from countries in Asia and Africa that face conflict, terrorism, extreme poverty, climate disasters. The sharpness and the duration of the historical processes that cause it, its massiveness and the abundance of countries from which these currents come are its special characteristics. Today we are witnessing a phenomenon in full swing, the parameters of which change every day. In this phase, the social scientist is called upon to function within a burning and fluid reality. These exceptional circumstances often make the empirical approach of the phenomenon very difficult. However, the need to monitor the phenomenon is feasible and imperative. The proposed set-up of an Observatory of the contemporary refugee phenomenon at EKKE aims at collecting, documenting and organizing information in open databases with multi-purpose and processing capabilities. Through this material, it will be possible to monitor the evolution of the phenomenon and the overall political, institutional and social "reaction" to that of the EU institutions, its members and in particular the Greek state and society. The aim is to create a structure that will systematically collect information and disseminate this information to a network of stakeholders. At the same time, the Observatory will be the same research tool, allowing the temporal, spatial and thematic correlation of its data
