RaRE - Understanding Risk and Resilience in the Educational Performance of Refugee Children and Youth

The project aims to empirically investigate the factors that determine the access to and participation of refugee and migrant children in secondary education. Specifically, it seeks to understand the role of psychological resilience in their educational performance, across four interconnected levels: (a) individual characteristics, (b) the family environment, (c) the school environment and the wider community, and the interactions between them, and (d) the attitudes and perceptions of the host society. The findings will provide policymakers with data based on evidence-based analysis, enabling them to design effective educational policies, and offer educators the tools to promote the education of children and youth from diverse backgrounds. The research findings are also expected to enhance healthcare professionals' understanding to improve care provision for refugee populations, thereby facilitating their social integration.
